Week 1 — General concepts and threats
Build a working model of controls, zero trust, change management, cryptography, threat actors, attack surfaces, vulnerabilities, and indicators. Explain why each control changes risk.
The public blueprint weights General Security Concepts 12%, Threats, Vulnerabilities and Mitigations 22%, Security Architecture 18%, Security Operations 28%, and Security Program Management and Oversight 20%. Start proportionally, then shift time toward demonstrated weakness.
Build a working model of controls, zero trust, change management, cryptography, threat actors, attack surfaces, vulnerabilities, and indicators. Explain why each control changes risk.
Design secure network, cloud, application, data, and resilience choices. Practice identity, hardening, segmentation, wireless, certificates, monitoring, and automation as connected systems.
Give the largest domain the largest practice share: vulnerability management, alert triage, incident response, evidence, recovery, asset management, and operational security. Work scenario-first.
Connect policies, risk, third parties, compliance, audits, and awareness to technical decisions. Run mixed timed sets, study every explanation, and target the cause of each miss.
Use 20 minutes to learn, 10 to retrieve without notes, 20 to solve scenarios, and 10 to maintain an error log. For every tool or control, name the signal, the risk, the first responsible action, and the evidence you would inspect.
Confirm the active exam code, policies, and current objectives directly with CompTIA. PrepVanta is independent and does not use recalled exam questions.
